An introduction to the new Azure exams

- [Instructor] In 2018, there was a big overhaul in the Azure certification platform and the exams themselves. The move was made towards exams which are more role-based, which assess the more practical aspects of building solutions in Azure. Before this, exams were mostly technology-based, which meant that content might not be very relevant to what people were actually doing day to day. Microsoft wanted to move towards a model which would allow people who worked in Azure to achieve certifications that were closely related to the technologies that they were actually using. In order to support these new certifications, the following job roles were defined in the Azure certifications path. An Azure Developer is focused on designing, building, testing, and maintaining Azure solutions. An Azure Administrator focuses on implementing, monitoring, and maintaining these solutions. An Azure DevOps Engineer is focused on people, processes, and technologies for delivering continuous value. An Azure Security Engineer is focused on all things security in Azure. To be an Azure Architect, you require a more in-depth and higher level understanding of designing and implementing Azure solutions. A Data Engineer is focused on integrating, transforming, and consolidating data. And Azure AI Associate is focused on implementing AI solutions in Azure. A Data Scientist applies machine learning and data science techniques within Azure. An Azure IoT Developer, which is a relatively new certification, is focused on all things IoT. There's Azure for SAP Workloads, which is for architects and engineers who are focused on systems applications and products in data processing. And finally, Azure Database Administrators are focused on the operational aspects of cloud databases. These roles are split into three categories, associate, expert, and specialty. The breakdown is shown here. If you pass the AZ-204 exam, which we are focusing on in this course, you will achieve the Azure Developer Associate certification. There are also dependencies between a couple of the Azure certifications. The Azure Developer exam is one of the two prerequisite options, along with the Azure Administrator exam, for getting an Azure DevOps Engineer certification. The dependencies are shown here alongside the exams that you'd need to sit in order to achieve each of these certifications. So we can see that even after passing the AZ-204 exam, there's a whole world of further opportunity for expanding your skillset. But for now, let's go into a bit more detail about exactly what's covered in AZ-204 and what you'll need to know for this step in your Azure certification journey.
