Why get Azure certified?

- [Instructor] So we know that the cloud and by extension, Azure, is a vitally important part of the ongoing expansion of the technology industry. This is something that many of you are probably aware of, but a question remains, why get Azure certified? The first, and for many people the most important reason is career progression. Azure certifications can be a great addition to a resume. They highlight not only that you have the knowledge and skills necessary to work in the Azure space, but also that you have the drive and commitment to get certified. Clearly real world experience and understanding can't be beaten, but an Azure certification can be a great way to consolidate and demonstrate those skills in order to stand out from the crowd. Many positions will even specify Azure certifications as a requirement or offer a salary boost for each certification that you pass. The fact that Azure and the cloud can be used for such a wide range of applications means that a certification offers a huge degree of flexibility. The skills that you learn and demonstrate through these certifications are applicable in a huge number of industries, meaning that your skills are fully transferable no matter what your aspirations are. Many businesses are currently moving to a more cloud first style of working. And as this happens, the need for outside expertise increases. And Azure certification can be seen as a demonstration of this expertise, and therefore make you a promising candidate for companies looking to branch out. Alongside career progression there is the knowledge that you gain through the learning path itself. Many of us who are working with Azure have a general knowledge of much of the ecosystem but are focused on a few key areas day to day. Preparing for a Microsoft certification provides an opportunity to broadener knowledge and get a more in depth understanding of areas that we might be less familiar with. Working through the structured topics allows us to fill out any gaps in understanding and learn more about a wide range of technologies. Outside of your personal development goals, Azure certifications could be instrumental in giving your organization credibility. A company that can say they have multiple Azure certified developers may look more desirable to prospective clients. There are also different combinations of certifications that mean a company can claim partner status in a variety of different areas. These include application and infrastructure development, business applications, data and AI, and modern workplace and security. These organization-wide competencies prove an organization's credibility to customers. Organizations that are Microsoft Gold partners in data and AI, for example, are sure to be first on the list for those who want to expand into these areas in the Azure space. So working towards a Microsoft certification is clearly a worthwhile investment. Next we'll quickly run through roughly what I'm expecting you to know prior to taking this course.
