- Let's now review some of the certification options available for Microsoft 365. If you choose the Microsoft 365 Certification path, you can first achieve the Microsoft 365 Fundamentals Level by sitting just one exam. This is an optional exam, and it's for people new to Microsoft 365, or if you want to validate your Microsoft 365 knowledge and skills. If you already have a fundamental knowledge or skills within Microsoft 365, you can start instead by studying directly at the associate level. When studying for Microsoft 365 certification, there are several job roles that you can choose. At the Associate level, these include the following workload administrator roles: The Microsoft-certified modern desktop administrator, Microsoft-certified security administrator, Microsoft-certified teamwork administrator, and the Microsoft-certified messaging administrator. Once you've achieved any one more more of the associate level certifications, you can then progress to the expert level to become a Microsoft-certified enterprise administrator. Let's drill down into just one of the Microsoft 365 associate level certifications. The Microsoft 365 certified modern desktop administrator path is designed to test that you can deploy, configure, secure, manage, monitor devices in an enterprise environment that uses Microsoft 365. To gain this Associate level certification, you'll need to pass two exams, the MD-100, Windows 10, and the MD-101, managing modern desktops. And to gain the Microsoft-certified enterprise administrator expert level accreditation, you'll have already earned at least one associate level exam. You're then required to pass two Expert level exams. These are the MS-100, Microsoft 365 identity and services, and MS-101, which is the Microsoft 365 mobility and security exam. This gives you a drill-down for each different type of certification, from Azure to Dynamics, to Microsoft 365, and there's likely to be more cloud role-based certifications appear, as they replace the on-premises technologies. One final word before we leave certification. Certification comes with a financial cost. And while certification is optional, it can be a worthwhile investment to advance your career. You can save money by purchasing several exams as a bundle. There are often discounts for up to 50% available. You can choose to put just one single exam or you include a bundle to include extras such as an exam resit, or practice tests. All Microsoft exams can be taken at an official test center. However, most can also be taken conveniently from your home. In fact, the last ten exams that I've taken have been from home. These can include bundles which you can purchase which allow you to take additional retakes if you fail and also practice tests. The career skills presented in this section are that Microsoft certifications are job role based exams and you'll need to sit a specific set of exams depending on the career path that you choose to follow. That there are three levels of Microsoft certification: Fundamentals, Associate and Expert. The Fundamentals level is optional and requires you to pass one exam whilst the Associate and Expert levels will require you to pass either one or two exams.
