When deploying our environments it is necessary to keep in mind security, we look at best practices in Azure including using Azure Key Vault.
- [Instructor] As we mature our footprint in devops … and adopt IAC into our pipelines, it's important … to introduce some best practices regarding security. … When we are creating our templates, at some point … we need to provide secure access to those components. … This can include passwords, connection strings, keys, … and shared access signatures to storage components. … We don't want to be sharing these, especially when … we are checking in our templates. … Now, you might be thinking, "We can create parameters … "and specify these values during runtime." … Well, that's not a great approach as the information … would still be visible to anyone looking … at those parameters. … So what are the options we have available to us? … Well, one option we have is to use output parameters … to pass values during provisioning. … For instance, once we create a database we can use … the connection string as an output and pass it along. … A more robust option is to use Azure Key Vault … where we can store secrets, keys, and certificates. …
