- [Instructor] A common security concern for cloud applications accessible from the internet is distributed denial of service attack, also known as DDoS attack. The purpose of a DDoS attack is to overwhelm the resources of an application and exhaust them in an attempt to make it unavailable to legitimate users. Microsoft Azure has a service called Azure DDoS Protection that aims to provide protection against DDoS attacks. Azure DDoS Protection is available in two service tiers, basic and standard. The basic service tier is free and automatically enabled on the Azure platform. This protects you from volume-based attacks. These attacks flood the network with a large amount of traffic. The basic service protects you from DDoS attacks by distributing the traffic across all of Azure's network infrastructure.
