How much engineering should a designer know?

If I go back to when I started in my career, you were a designer, or you were a servicing engineer, or you were an engineer. And that was your, that was your role, you were kind of segmented into that role. Today's designers now have to have an appreciation of engineering, and engineers have to have an appreciation of design. And the reason being is because design processes now are becoming so compressed that you cannot afford to make mistakes. You cannot afford to miss something that has to be changed later on in the design process. A, it takes time and it costs a lot of money to do that. So now they're looking for people that have a really, really broad understanding of the overall process itself. So, now when you look at recruiting a designer, you'd, you really want to look for somebody that's got at least an appreciation of engineering practices.
