- AutoCAD has long had the ability to create solid models but these solid models are pure geometry. There are no relationships within them to make it easier to maintain the shape as the design develops over time. Parametric solid models are feature-based. These features are based on 2D sketches. To control these sketches, we need to develop geometric relationships and dimensional relationships between the elements of the sketch. These 2D sketches can then turn into 3D shapes that can be controlled by these parametric sketches. In this video, we will use a few basic tools to improve a sketch and then to create a simple 3D model. Looking at our model, we have on the screen a few sketch elements. We're currently not editing the sketch but we can still grab a few of these conceptual ideas and make modifications to them by simply clicking and dragging them around on the screen.
