In this video, author Shaun Bryant explains Autodesk certification and why it is needed.
- [Instructor] So, what exactly is Autodesk certification? Well, basically, your certification is a benchmark that Autodesk or employers, for example, can use to check your knowledge of a particular Autodesk product. In this case, in this particular course, it will be Autodesk's AutoCAD product. Now, you'll notice I've got a browser open and you can see there that I'm on the Training and Certification page on the Autodesk website. It's very easy to find, just go to autodesk.com/certification.
It will take you to this page. If you look at the top of the browser there, you can see the slightly longer URL that you can use as well to get to this particular page. Now, as you can see there, Certification is listed at the top there, and it says "From academia and throughout your professional career, "Autodesk provides educational resources", which can be instructor-led in the classroom, self-paced, things like the course you're doing now online, and, also, online training is provided by Autodesk as well. but, more importantly, it's that last bit in that sentence, "certification to help you stay competitive." Once you've got that certification, you've passed an exam, and you've proved that you are at a certain level, a certain benchmark with, in this case, AutoCAD.
As it says, "competition for talent is fierce "in today's marketplace." An employer will look at your resume and look and see whether you've got certification in AutoCAD, in this case, and you might be looking to get a role that involves using AutoCAD. If you've got that certification, it gives you that little step up, and the employer can go, right, I know that they know how to drive AutoCAD, and it means that they know that they are more assured in knowing that you've got the knowledge of AutoCAD to work in that particular role.
Now, as it says there, you can stand out with an Autodesk certification. You'll notice on the right hand side of the webpage you can find an Autodesk certified professional. So, if you need an Autodesk certified professional to do some work, you can look it up on the directory on the Autodesk website. Also, as well, we've got various certification options. Now, I'm just going to jump over here and click over here on Certification Options. I can also click here as well on Certification Options. If I scroll down the page, there's a little bit more information, there's some testimonial sites there as well, and you can see that you've got things like Barren County, Jurong Consultants, Hyder Consulting.
They all use Autodesk certification. What I'm going to do is click on View Certification Options and what happens is it jumps us onto a different webpage, and you'll notice now that we are in certiport.com, and we're looking at the Autodesk Certified Professional video there. There's a little video there that you can watch, the View Program Intro, it's 60 seconds long. And you'll notice that you can get certified professional examination qualifications in all of these Autodesk products.
Now, obviously, this particular course, we're going to look at helping you review and revise in preparation for your AutoCAD Certified Professional exam. Now, there are two types of exams that you can take. If I scroll down the webpage a little, you can see thee that we've also got Autodesk Certified User. So, there is an Autodesk Certified User exam, there is an Autodesk Certified Professional exam. The User exam basically proves that you can use the product, in this case, you can use AutoCAD.
The Certified Professional exam is a more in-depth examination, and it tests you on your knowledge and expertise with the product in a more professional environment. Now, the particular role for this course, though, is that we're going to get you to review and revise for your AutoCAD Certified Professional exam. However, the content will also assist should you be taking your Autodesk Certified User exam as well. So, I'll just scroll back up the page a little bit now, so that we can see the top of the Certiport webpage there.
In the next couple of videos in this particular chapter, what we're going to have a look at is the Certified User exam and the Certified Professional exam, so we know the criteria for each one.
Note: The exam objectives are not release specific, but the course has been revised to reflect the most recent version of the software, AutoCAD 2018.
