Rotate objects in 3D

- [Instructor] In this video I'd like to rotate all of the elevations and sections up appropriately, so that they represent the three-dimensional reality. Right now all of these drawings are 2-D, and they're all flat on the same XY plane. So I'd like to tilt each of these drawings up, and the easiest way to do that is to use the 3-D rotate gizmo, and that's accessible from the 3-D basics workspace. Right now we have no way of getting to that particular command on the ribbon. By default the ribbon is set to the drafting and annotation workspace, so we need to come down here to the status bar and open up the customization menu to customize the status bar, and turn on workspace switching if it's not already on. That enables this icon which looks like a gear. Open that and change to 3-D basics workspace. That's going to change the entire ribbon, so we have new tab names at the top. We also have new panels with 3-D commands on them. Now I'm interested in the gizmo and it's located over here. If you open up this menu, you'll see that you have special 3-D gizmos for move, rotate and scale. I want to use the rotate gizmo, so I'll select that, and the way that this works is through grip selection, so that means you need to click on an object to activate its grips, and then the rotate gizmo will appear. And now, this is only true if you're in a 3-D visual style. If I was in the 2-D wire frame visual style, that would not show, it would just be the regular blue grip that you see right there. So you need to also be in a 3-D visual style for this to work, and now we see the rotate gizmo, and it's a control that has these three different colored rings representing each of the three axes. Now in this particular case, I want to rotate this around the red axis, so I'll click on that ring. And then I'll press the F8 key to toggle ortho off, and you can see that I have the ability to rotate that around the red axis. I'll press F8 again to toggle ortho on, and then I'll click above to rotate that exactly 90 degrees, and then press escape to deselect. I'll click on this drawing, and then I'm going to rotate this one around the green axis, so I'll click on the green ring, and then click below in this case to rotate it 90 degrees down, and then escape, and then I'll click on these two drawings, and notice that the rotate gizmo went to their selection center, and then I can rotate them both around the x axis, and I'll click above to rotate them in that direction. I'll just orbit around, and you can see that these drawings have been tilted up. Continuing on over here, I'll click on this drawing and rotate it around the red axis, and then over here, I'll press escape to deselect, and I'll select, now if I select both of these drawings and rotate them, they're going to rotate together, and that's not exactly what we want, so I'm going to undo, I'll undo up here on the quick axis tool bar a couple of times. So I'm going to rotate them individually around the green axis, and then I'll press escape and rotate this one as well. And that way, we can rotate them each separately so that they're rotated in the proper orientation.
