New layers and the Layer dropdown menu

- [Voiceover] The layers that you use in AutoCAD come from an old drawing board methodology known as overlay drafting. And basically what you do is you put each object that you create in AutoCAD on a different layer. When you worked on a drawing board, those of you that did, those of you that remember them, there were two spikes at the top of an engineering drawing board, and you used to hang drawing sheets with hanging binding straps across the top on those spikes so that you could trace over elements from one drawing to another. The benefit you have obviously with AutoCAD is all of those sheets, in essence, are in the one place as your layers so that you can switch them on and off, you can utilize those layers, you can create new layers as well. The layers themselves are all on the Layers panel in the Home tab on the ribbon. So there's the Layers panel there, and you can see that we have Layer Properties.
