Inventor file types

- Everyone, even people who don't use AutoCAD, know what a DWG file is. Inventor uses different file types for different functions. For example, there are different file types for your parts, assemblies, drawings. Le'ts take a look at how these are presented to you as you're working inside of Inventor. On the screen we have an assembly. In fact, if I look at the top of the browser it even tells me that the file names ends with a .iam extension. Now the parts don't give me the extension but take a look at the icon next to the file name. In the case of a part, It looks like a single block. In the case of an assembly, it looks like a stack of blocks, because multiple parts make up an assembly. This is a little easier to see if we go to create a new file. In the new file dialog box you'll see our familiar blocks, single blocks, our assemblies. And if we pan down we'll see that in our drawings our drawing icon for the standard file type for Inventor drawings, which is a .iew file, are…
