- [Instructor] Although AutoLISP and Visual LISP use the same programming nomenclature Visual LISP is not just visual because we have an IDE or an editor that we are looking at and working with right now. Visual LISP came into being around the same time that Visual BASIC for applications began to be included with AutoCAD. Visual LISP is really the means whereby you can leverage the power and additional functionality of VBA while continuing to use LISP code. All Visual LISP functionality starts with a VL. Sometimes it's VLA, VLAX, but always at least VL. To make sure that such functionality's available it's good to always have built into any of the files that has Visual LISP functions the Visual LISP function VL-LOAD-COM. Notice because it's a function it's enclosed in parentheses. This simply confirms and makes sure that the Visual LISP functions are available to us that they've been loaded into and are available for us to use in our LISP routines.
