- [Voiceover] Last but not least in this external references section of our AutoCAD 2017 Essentials course is the ability to edit an Xref in place. You may remember when we looked at blocks you can edit a block in place, if you want to as well, just a regular AutoCAD block. It's exactly the same technique. So I'm going to select my Xref in the drawing. So I'm staying in the 13_XREFs.dwg file, or your copied version that you've saved locally. I've selected the Xref like so. It's highlighted, and we've got the contextual external reference come up on the ribbon again. So you can see there that we've got an Edit panel. Now I've already showed you the Open Reference option. Click on Edit Reference in Place in the Edit panel, and you'll recognize the dialog box. It looks the same as the block one, but what we're editing now is an actual external reference rather than a block. But you can obviously reference in an AutoCAD block if you want to.
