Creating a base drawing projection from the model - AutoCAD Tutorial

- In this chapter we will explore the model documentation features. To get started, go to S2, which is a blank sheet that we set up earlier. Then click on the Layout tab here on the ribbon. This tab only appears, of course, when you're in a layout. This area that says Create View contains the model documentation features. You always start by creating a base drawing. We can make it from AutoCAD's Model Space or from Autodesk Inventor. Choose from Model Space and a projected version of the 3D model is now attached to the cursor. Click a point in the middle of the sheet and you get this dynamic menu. But notice that you also have this temporary Drawing View Creation tab, which appears on the ribbon. Here you can choose the Orientation of the model. Right now we're looking at the Front view. We could just change that and we get a different projection. But because this is the base drawing, this is going to be the basis of future drawings that we make, so it makes sense to select an orthogonal view. I'll stick with Front. Over here we can choose the way that the information is presented. We can Shade with visible and hidden lines or just visible lines. And these things aren't really evident yet. What we need to do first is click OK and then enter. That completes the process. And then later we can come back in here and select the object and then click Edit View. And then we can come back here and change something. So, for example, I'll change it to show Shaded with visible and hidden lines. And now we can see that update. You see the hidden lines are shown with a dashed line type because these are actually obscured by this orange element. I'm gonna choose visible lines and that will generate a line drawing. You can also change the Scale from this drop-down menu. Right now we're looking at 1:4 scale. And that's equivalent to 3" = 1'. You see, if I choose this, nothing changes. But you can change the scale and the projection will be updated. I think on this sheet 3" scale actually works pretty well, so I'm just gonna stick with that. You also have Edge Visibility. Turn on Tangent edges and you'll see this curved portion of this object appears as a double-line representation. Without that, we don't see that subtle detailing. We could foreshorten those Tangent edges and that takes some of the information away. And I find that a little bit distracting in this case. I'll turn that back off. OK. And there's our drawing. Once you've made it, you can reselect it and move it around using its base grip. And there's also a Custom menu here where you can choose the scale. I'll reposition the drawing about like this and then press escape to deselect.
