Breaking up your model

- We finished the modeling on our scale model. But we still have some work to do to get it ready for 3D Printing. When you're working with the Desktop 3D Printer there are some printing rules to keep in mind. These printers can't print in midair, so over hanging objects present problems for successful prints. You can print with automatically generated support material, but that can be a little bit tricky to remove and it can sometimes mar the surface of the model which isn't ideal for something that is suppose to be a presentation object. So when we're looking at our model, the big over hangs are obvious, it's the roof. So there's a few ways you could tackle this. In this case I'm going to choose to print the roof separately which is also going to allow us to remove the roofs to show the client the inside of the house. So let's make those changes. I'm going to start by changing our active layer to the moment to zero. And I'll use LAYFRZ to freeze all of the layers I don't need for the…
