Adding dimensions to a drawing
From the course: Migrating from AutoCAD to Inventor
Adding dimensions to a drawing
- For manufacturing, accurate drawing projections aren't enough. They also need dimensions, annotations and other special characters. Let's take a brief look at some of the common tools needed to create mechanical annotations inside of Autodesk Inventor. For our needs, let's move to the second sheet. To add dimensions and annotations, we need to have the Annotate tab active or, as mentioned before, Inventor is contextual, so if I right-click in a drawing, I'm offered many of the common tools needed for annotation, including General Dimension. Let's take a closer look at a couple of our drawing views. Using the General Dimension tool, I can simply select an edge and place the dimension. Note that Inventor highlights when that dimension is being placed at a proper distance away from our drawing view. Selecting two edges that aren't aligned will give me the option to place an angle dimension immediately. And selecting a curved edge, and I'm gonna move back out to that view. Moving down…
