Creating a duplicate component
- If you need to create a new part to your catalog, sometimes it's best to create a duplicate of an existing part, and make the modifications to the copy. Just remember, it's good practice not to make changes to your master catalogs. So here's how you would create a component that has the same physical properties as the original but has a different description. So let's navigate to our desktop, so open catalog, desktop, exercise files, and we're going to go all three or four, create a duplicate component, and select the pipings and fittings catalog. Now we're going to come up to our catalog editor. And we're going to run some filters for flange. And I want to pick a weld neck. So my short description, 150 pounds, I want a race face, and I'm going to choose this one here. So now I want to create a new component based on exactly the same physical properties as this one but I'm going to change the long description. I'll explain why you may need to do that.
