Underlaying images

- [Instructor] Occasionally we need to copy or trace information that we cannot get in CAD form. These might be topography maps, component panel layouts or even old hand drafted plans. Fortunately, AutoCAD for Mac allows us to insert a number of different file types as underlays so that we can trace them. AutoCAD for Mac supports many image file types including JPEG, TIF, and PNG files. To start, I'm going to go up to the insert menu item and click on Raster Image Reference. From here, under advanced objects, I'm going to grab my image underlay and click open. Just like external references I can specify things like path type and the insertion points. I'm going to go ahead and click on okay. Click here to place my image. And I'm just going to scale it up right about there. If I select the image, I get the image visor across the top. This allows me to control things like the brightness, the contrast, as well as the fade. Fading can be extremely helpful, as it darkens the image so we can…
