Text styles

- [Instructor] Since we can't be there to verbally explain how to build the things that we draw, we must communicate through text on our drawings. AutoCAD for Mac allows us to create styles that we can save with specific properties like a specific font, angles, height, width, or variations like bold or italic. I'm going to go up to format, text style, and here we can see the text style dialogue box. Annotative text styles are special in that they change size when inserted in a model space and then viewed through viewports of different scales. Since we're going to focus on placing our annotations in paper space, we're going to focus on standard text styles for now. To create a new style, I can go down and click on the plus. And I'm simply going to call this notes and press return. Now, I need to locate the font that I want to use. So I can either scroll up and down the font list here or I can also start to filter them out by typing in something in the search bar here. The one I'm looking for here is Roman S. There we are. If it has any options like bold or italic, they'll actually show up over here. And next, we're going to go ahead and look at the text height. Now, I'm actually not going to specify a text height right now. I usually recommend not specifying a text height as you're somewhat locked in to the height if we type it in here. And if we use this text style later on, let's say in a dimension style, the height might be overwritten with a value that we set here. So I'm going to leave this at zero to give us a little bit of flexibility later. I can set the width factor of the text or the angle if I need to oblique it. I can also reverse the text or flip it upside down if I like. This is useful if you're perhaps making a mold or printing on vellum. So from here, I can set up different text styles with different fonts, angles, and other properties like things specifically for notes, dimensions, title block text, or title pages. These text styles allow me to save that specific font like Roman S and then have multiple variations that I can recall as needed.
