Splines

- [Instructor] A spline is a complex object in AutoCAD similar to a poly line, but infinitely more involved. When a poly line is exploded or broken down, it breaks down into arcs and lines. This would seem to make it a more mathematically-based object. However, despite its very fluid shape, a spline is technically more mathematical in nature, owing its tangential curves and arcs to polynomial functions. Like an ellipse, they can be a bear to work with if ever exploded or broken apart. And they don't particularly play well with 3D modeling functions. However, like an ellipse, for the most part we can let AutoCAD do all the math for us and we can focus on creating some very interesting shapes. Like the poly line tool, we can create fluid closed shapes, or splines can be open ended like poly lines as well. I can either type the word spline in the command line, or I can find it here on the draw panel. From here I can just…
