Scale

- [Instructor] On my screen, I have some one-by-one squares, and I need to scale these to different sizes. One of these needs to be half the size that it currently is, 0.5 by 0.5, and the other one needs to be twice the size that it currently is, or two by two. To accomplish this, I'm going to use the Scale command. We'll find the command here under the Modify tool panel. I'm going to select my first square here, and then press Return. For the base point, I'm going to use the lower-left corner point, right about here. Now, we can see as I drag my cursor away, the further away from the base point I get, the larger the object becomes. The closer I get to the base point, the smaller it becomes. I'm just going to go ahead and click right about there. Now, I know we said I need specific sizes, so let's focus on that with the other square. I'm going to choose the Scale command here, pick my square, and press Return. This time I'm going to select the upper-right corner point as my base point, and I'm asked again for the specific scale factor. For the scale factor, remember that one is equal to 100% or the existing size, so anything smaller than one will scale my object smaller. Anything larger than one will increase its size. So, again, I'm going to type in 0.5, and press Return. Now, back to my first square, I still need to get it to a specific size. So, I'm going to grab my square here, and type in SC for the Scale command. This time I'm going to use the geometric center here for the base point. Now AutoCAD is asking me for the scale factor. Well, unfortunately, I really don't know how big this square is anymore, so to help me out, I'm going to use the Reference option. So, I'm going to press in R and Return. The reference length that AutoCAD is looking for is two points on the square itself. So, I'm going to choose this point here and this point here. AutoCAD is now asking me for the new length. It needs me to specify exactly how far apart those two points that I picked should be. In my case, they need to be two units apart. So, I'm going to type in two, and press Return. I'm going to use the Inquiry tool up here under Tools to double-check and make sure that these have scaled properly. So, here we can see that yes, this is two by two, and we can zoom in over here. And we can see that yes, this is 0.5 by 0.5, so there we are. The Scale command can help you adjust your drawings by increasing or decreasing their size uniformly, relieving you from having to redraw your objects bigger or smaller.
