Panning

- [Instructor] Panning refers to moving your view of the screen without changing your zoom level, and to be clear, we're only moving our view of the screen. None of the objects are changing their position, just our view of them. Like zooming, panning is an important part of navigating your drawing, and also like zooming, there are a number of ways of accomplishing it. We'll find some under View, Pan. The first one Realtime turns your cursor into a glove and allows you to click and drag to pan back and forth on your drawing. Panning by Point allows you to pick a start point and an endpoint in order to pan a little bit more precisely. The Directional Pans seen here just nudge your drawing in one direction or another. Like zooming, you can also use the wheel on your mouse to pan. Simply click the wheel as if it were a button on your two-button mouse, and you can drag your cursor around the screen. Also, if you have a trackpad, we can use gestures just like other applications in macOS. You can place two fingers on your trackpad and pan around your drawing. Again, personally, I find panning the most efficient when I'm using a simple, two-button mouse with a wheel, as my hand is already on the mouse. However, when using a laptop, I find that two fingers on the trackpad to be a very natural way of navigating my drawing. Panning and zooming are integral skills to your drafting, so practice and get comfortable with them, both in tandem and separately.
