- There are a number of dimensioning tools and the ones that you'll use will depend on what it is you're dimensioning. So we're going to start with the basic tools, namely the linear dimension tool, which is found here under the dimension panel. So after we select the tool, I'm asked to specify the extension line origin. So in this case it's just a matter of picking the point that I want to dimension, so I'm going to go ahead and pick a point here and I'm going to pick my point here. Then I'm asked to place the dimension line I'm just going to drag up to right about there. So linear dimensions always give the horizontal or vertical distance between two points that I select. I'm going to hit return to get back into the linear dimension tool and I'm going to pick this point here and then this point down here.
