Hatch basics

- [Instructor] There comes a time in drafting when you need to display the material of an object, whether it's siding on an architectural elevation or the materials of an assembly section, like steel or aluminum. Instead of drawing patterns and lines by hand, AutoCAD allows to fill closed areas with what is called a hatch pattern. We'll find the hatch tool here, and we'll present it immediately with the hatch visor. We're requested also to pick an internal point. Think of this as pouring a bucket of paint into the enclosed area. The pattern will spread to fill the area you select, so the area must be completely closed. I'm going to click inside of the rectangle here and immediately we can see that I'm given a visual preview of the pattern. I can move up to the hatch visor, I can select a different pattern if I like, from the list of hatches. From the visor, I can also control the angle and the scale of that particular pattern.
