Join Jim LaPier for an in-depth discussion in this video Ellipses, part of AutoCAD for Mac 2015 Essential Training.
- An ellipse is similar to an oval,…but way more mathematical.…Fortunately, AutoCAD will do the work for us…and we just need to provide a few points…for AutoCAD to draw our ellipse.…Like a circle, there are few ways…of drawing an ellipse based on the information…about the ellipse that you have.…I can draw an ellipse with the axis endpoints,…the center, and the endpoints,…or the rotation.…I'm gonna start by typing in ellipse,…and specifying the axis endpoints here,…and here, and finally here.…
The ellipse tool is found here,…and the default is center endpoint.…So I'll click,…specify the center of my ellipse,…and then the two axis endpoints.…I'm gonna add a circle here.…And I wanna talk about the differences…between ellipses and circles.…Note that while ellipses look like flattened circles,…there are some significant differences.…While both have center and quadrant points,…a circle's quadrants are at 90 degree increments,…always starting at angle zero.…
Since ellipses have an angle,…the quadrants are always on the axis endpoints.…
