- [Instructor] I've mentioned that the drawing space In AutoCAD is nearly infinite, but it still needs to be measured, and we can control the measurement system that we use as well as the format for entering in new measurements and information. Don't be confused, though. This has nothing to do with metric or imperial, millimeters or inches. AutoCAD considers all measurements in decimal form as just the unit. You decide what unit you want to use as you draw. If you draw a 10 unit line, it will be 10 inches if that's what you intend, as long as everything else in your drawing is drawn at the same unit of inches. Drawing units simply means what format do I want AutoCAD to recognize as I enter in my values? I'm going to go up to here to Format and then Units. Here, we can see I have two different sections, one for length and one for angles. Decimal means that all values that I enter in or that AutoCAD reads back to me will be written in decimal format.
