Creating layers

- When we set up a new drawing in Autocad, the only layer that exists is layer zero, the default layer. To create new layers, we need to open the full layer pallet. I'll click here to un-dock the layer pallet. And here, we can see a list of existing layers as well as some tools for controlling the layers. By default, the layer properties columns may be too narrow for you to show any useful information. If that is the case, as it is here, go to the lower right corner, and then select optimize all columns under view options. I'm going to select the new layer button found here. And I'm going to give this one a name called hidden, and press return. From here we can click on any of the layer's rows and any column to change the layer properties.
