Controlling your layers

- Creating layers allows not only for the visual identification of your objects, but also allows us to display layers, or not display layers, for ease of editing. There are two ways of not displaying your layers. Turning them off, Or freezing them. The difference ultimately has to do with how autocad calculates things behind the scenes. If a layer is turned off, which is done by going up to the layer drop down, and then selecting the icon here autocad simply stops displaying the layer. However, freezing is a bit more involved as autocad does not display the layer, but also stops thinking about the layer so to speak. Not taking this layer into account when it zooms extends for example. If you have a layer with a lot of complicated objects and your file is getting a bit sluggish freezing the layer will help autocad process a bit faster, as opposed to simply turning the layer on or off.
