Configuring a new drawing

- [Instructor] Most drafters tend to reuse their drawings over and over and over again, but every so often, we need to use a new drawing. You can choose File and New, or you can also press Command + N or type in new down at the command line. This brings us to the template dialog box, and it's taken us to the default template location that is set in your application preferences. Think of a template like a piece of paper. A blank piece of paper, like a printer paper, is a blank template. You can also have paper with grid lines or lined paper for writing. These are sort of like custom templates. They already have pre-printed lines on them so you don't have to start from scratch every single time. Templates can include your layers, title blocks, other geometry, or any information that you use all the time. AutoCAD for Mac also has a few pre-configured templates that you can use, both imperial and metric versions of both architectural and manufacturing drawings. These come with pre-made title blocks and even layers to get you started. Remember that a new drawing using any template does not alter the original template file. It's just a starting point for your new drawing.
