What are layers?

- [Instructor] We're starting a new chapter now in our course, and we're going to be looking at organizing your AutoCAD LT drawing with layers. Now, you may ask yourself, "What are layers? "Why do we use layers in our AutoCAD LT drawings?" Well, they're based on a concept that comes from the drawing board, where you used to overlay acetate drawing sheets on top of each other and trace the information through onto the current drawing sheet. What you've got now, though, in AutoCAD LT is a layer of one particular piece of information, let's say dimensions on the drawing we've got here, and then there's another layer of another piece of information that might be furniture, or doors, or windows. And those layers allow you to distinguish your objects and your elements in your AutoCAD LT drawings. That's what layers are all about. Now, layers themselves are created in the layer properties manager, and then you can also utilize your layer drop down, as well, to obviously see which layer…
