In this video, we will examine how blocks pass their object properties from their definitions to their references. Open the Architectural2 samples file, in the Chapter 12 folder, and zoom in here on these two dining chairs. These chairs are both block references. That means they both reference a single block definition. Now, let me select one of those references and try to change its layer. I'll change it to this architectural slab layer which is purple. And normally when you do something like that, you would expect the object to turn purple. But in fact, that is not the case. The reason for that is, we are seeing the object properties of the block definition. They are passed through to the block reference. Even though this reference is on a purple layer, we don't see that. So to make this chair purple, we have to go in and edit the block definition. We can edit the block in place by double clicking on it. Click okay, and this opens up a separate environment called the Block Editor…
