Understanding model space
When it comes to AutoCAD's interface, we'll talk about the largest part first. That would be this drawing area in the middle of the screen. Otherwise known as Model Space. As a side note, you can see I have a drawing open. Now I don't expect you to open this same drawing. The only reason I've brought this up, is so that we're not looking at a completely blank interface. When it comes to Model Space there are two important things to know. One, Model Space is infinite in size. That means we can design anything we want in here. Whether it be a bird house or a regional airport. And we can construct our geometry at true size, or a scale of one to one. This is a departure from the way things were done in the past. Back then, we had to squeeze our designs down, such that they would fit within the boundaries of a sheet of paper. Our geometry was drawn to a scale.
