Understanding model and paper spaces

In this video, you'll learn about the difference between model space and paper space and how to navigate between model and layout views. Open the architectural sample file in the chapter 3 folder and go to the view tab. Let's turn on layout tabs here. This displays these elements in the lower left hand corner. Right now we're on the model tab, and that means that we're in model space. This is the space where you will draw all of the objects that you work on in AutoCAD. When it comes time to present the design you create a layout and this represents a physical piece of paper. Whether or not you're actually going to create a physical output or an electronic form of output doesn't matter. The layout gives you a chance to compose that on a specific size sheet. We can go there simply by clicking on the layout tab. So click on layout one, and you'll see what we call paper space. This is laid out according to the dimensions of this sheet.
