Removing xrefs is useful for quickly and easily making significant changes to a drawing file. AutoCAD LT has three different ways to remove an xref: unloading, detaching or binding. Unloading does not permanently remove an xref while detaching removes it forever. Binding is the best option for those who want to reintegrate them back into a single drawing file. Learn more about removing xrefs in AutoCAD 2015 in this training video.
…In this video, you'll learn how to remove xrefs.…Open the Architectural2 and Furniture samples files…from the Removing Xrefs subfolder within chapter 14.…Click on this icon on the status bar to open up the external references palette.…Right click on the furniture xref here in the Architectural2 file.…And you have a menu of choices.…We can unload, detach, or bind.…
These are the three different ways that you can remove an xref.…If we unload, the xref disappears.…However, the information about the xref, its path,…its insertion point is all remembered in this file.…At some future point I can come back in here…and right click and say reload, and it will reappear.…So use unload and reload as a way to temporarily hide an xref.…
If on the other hand you want to get rid…of it forever, you can right click and say detach.…The xref is gone.…And I no longer have the ability to access it here so if I…wanted to reattach it, I'd have to go through the process from step one.…In this tutorial I'm just going to go back a…step by clicking undo and that will reattach the xref.…
