- Most commonly used commands have command aliases or abbreviations you can use on the keyboard. For example, you can type REC instead of the full word rectangle to save time typing. In this video, you will edit a command alias using the alias editor built into AutoCAD. Type alias edit and press enter. It opens up this dialog box which is really a front end for editing this acad.pgp text file. One of my pet peeves with AutoCAD, is that the standard command alias for the copy command is CO. When I use the copy command it's probably the most frequently used command in AutoCAD. And I don't want to have to type in two letters. I just want to type C enter. And so I'm gonna change that here. Let's show you how to do it. The CO is copy. So I'm gonna click edit. I'm gonna change that to C, okay. And when I do that, we have a warning because there's a duplicate.
