Creating geometric constraints within a block
From the course: AutoCAD: Designing Dynamic Blocks
Creating geometric constraints within a block
- Select the block reference, right-click and choose Block Editor. So far we have two-dimensional constraints applied to the object. Let's go to the Constraints tab in the Block Authoring Palettes and scroll to the top. This is a list of Geometric Constraints. You can also find these up here, in this area. So this rectangle could have certain geometric constraints applied to it that would make it stay a rectangle instead of becoming a trapezoid. For example, let's apply a Vertical Constraint to this line, just click on it. This little badge appears, showing the constraint is applied to the highlighted object. Next, use Parallel. Click your first object here and your second object here. The parallel badge appears on both objects, here and here, and they both highlight when you hover the cursor over the badge. Apply a Horizontal Constraint right here, and then a Parallel Constraint here and here. If we try to go too far, for example, if we go Perpendicular, I'm gonna try to constrain…
