- [Instructor] In this movie, we're going to be talking about TIN surfaces and the best ways to build these. Many times, both new and experienced users have problems with surfaces that either cause crashes or in general, the surfaces just aren't building the way that they intend. There are a few rules to follow to make surfaces behave dependably and crash-free. So let's take a look at those. The first is how we define the surface. So when we first create a surface in Civil 3D, all we're doing is creating an empty container. And inside of that empty container, we start giving point information, or line and elevation data. And the order that we add those in determines how it's going to respond and build. The way that I've found works best is by starting with just your points. If we add all of the necessary points into the surface, then we can go and further define more features by using breaklines. So the breaklines are going to determine where TIN lines will stop.
