Identify key characteristics

- [Instructor] Let's look at our key survey terms. The first is a point. This is a single point in space defined by an X, Y, and Z coordinate and a description. The description is key for utilizing all of the other automated functions that we have in Civil 3D. The survey figure, much like a feature line or 3D pile-on, defines a linear object. Linework codesets are the special codes used to draw lines from survey data. These are the codes entered as part of the description and the point. A figure prefix database defines the layers and styles for automated linework. For instance, if we had a center line, Civil 3D would automatically take the linework and put it on the Center Line layer, and use an appropriate style. Description key sets automate the styles for surveyed points. Based on the description of the point, Civil 3D will choose Styles and place those in the drawing on an appropriate layer.
