- [Speaker] Now that we've learned what a surface is, in Civil 3D, it's points and then the triangles that connect the points. Let's go ahead and create a surface in Civil 3D, using the points. Now we're going to go ahead and open up our exercise file using the quick access toolbar, and select 04_02 surface points from chapter four of our exercise files. In this drawing you see many points are already available, placed on specific layers, we have a point group here called all points, because of the amount of points we already have in the drawing, and we're going to create a surface, so I'm going to come to the home ribbon and under the create ground data panel to surfaces and choose create surface. Now before I leave this dropdown note some other data you can use to create a surface, you can use a point cloud, you can use a shape file, or other GIS data to create an actual surface in Civil 3D, so don't overlook the many other ways to get the points or the data in the definition of our…
