- [Narrator] So far, all the grading we've done has been the entire length of our reference, our feature line and has been a consistent grade or slope from that feature line. It's a beautiful exercise, but in reality that just doesn't happen all the time. For example, we may need to change our drainage from our parking lot to having a shoulder that drains into the parking lot to maybe having a shoulder that drains away from the parking lot and toward our daylight. We need to have the ability to transition our grading along that feature line. Let's see how we do that in Civil 3D. We're going to open up our exercise file 13_05_GradingTransitions. We're back to the pond that we began with and started with, however you notice the berm is missing, along with the daylight on the outer edge of the berm. Ultimately the reason why is as we begin to look at the berm that was created, the end result, this area right through here was really in cut. If we're in cut, we really don't need a berm. We…
