- [Instructor] So far we've been working with pipe networks in plan view and in 2D, so let's take a look at pipe networks in profile view. So in this exercise, let's go ahead and open up our drawing file 10_04_PipeProfile. To edit in profile view, we have to actually show our pipe network in profile view. Now, a lot of times we're going to lean toward in certain situations we may feel more comfortable, or the jurisdiction may require to show that pipe network in a profile view associated with an alignment, such as a roadway.
But when we're in design, we probably need a profile view that specifically follows that pipe network, even if we don't use that in our plan deliverable, and plan production. Of course, to create a profile view we need an alignment, so let's create an alignment. Now, we can manually create an alignment that follows the pipe network, but let's see if there's a function here, if I select the structure and the contextual ribbon, it says alignment from network. So this is our start structure.
I say alignment from network, it says great. Select the next network part, that's what we see at the command line. Now, that doesn't mean we have to pick every single structure, it simply means help me understand, especially if there's branches, which direction you want to go. So if I pick the last structure in this case, it knows that that's the direction of the alignment, not to follow that branch. So I followed that, selected this last one, and press enter.
It's going to create an alignment for us. It's already set up with the feature settings to give it a name, and notice the type automatically is set to miscellaneous, as we mentioned when we were creating alignments and types. Don't worry about it, let the software really define that for us. Our style, our label set, don't need labels in this case, and then automatically it has a nice little checkbox here. You want to go straight from alignment to profiles and profile views? Absolutely. Click okay and goes to my profile scenario.
In this case I'm going to hold the control key down, and we're going to create surface profiles for both our existing grade and our road finished grade, and I click add. So that quickly I was able to create two profiles. Now we're just going to make sure the layers are set correctly for existing grade. It's going to be profile grad E, and for our finished grade simply profile grad. From there, we have our alignment created, we have our profiles created, now draw in profile view.
We've walked through this a few times already, but notice as we get through here and get to the section I always check, just make sure my label sets are correct. When we get to this section, this wasn't available before because we had no pipe networks in there before. Now that we do, notice that it automatically selected the pipe network, specifically the parts that make up or were used to create the alignment. So although this is a standard profile view network wizard, it was able to work in harmony with the very first selection of create alignment from network.
So I'm going to go ahead and click create profile view, pick somewhere above our design here, and it creates that profile view. The alignment's created, and I'm still back to the selection of the structure, so just hit escape to remove that selection, and notice that the existing grade profile, the proposed grade profile, following the road, along with the profile view and the structures, all of this. Even this structure, you notice that we have that branch pipe being shown coming into that structure.
So we're ready now to label and edit in profile view.
