What you should know before watching this course

- [Instructor] So what should you know about your AutoCAD Architecture Essential Training before you start the course? One of the first things you should know is that AutoCAD Architecture still uses the regular AutoCAD native file format, the .dwg file. You'll notice we've got floorplan.dwg open at the moment in AutoCAD Architecture, and you can see the name of the file at the top of the AutoCAD Architecture screen there in the title bar. Now, the one thing you will notice is if you've used AutoCAD before, AutoCAD Architecture is subtly different. There are different panels on the ribbon. There are different tabs on the ribbon. You'll notice that tool palettes are used a lot more. You can see the tool palettes Design there on the screen. Now what I suggest that you do is, if you're a premium member, you can go and do other courses. My suggestion is, if you haven't done it already, go and do the AutoCAD Essential Training course. Now the reason I suggest that is you're then fully aware of the AutoCAD basics, the methodologies, the naming conventions, and kind of how everything works in the AutoCAD engine. Because what you've got in AutoCAD Architecture is the AutoCAD engine plus all of the AutoCAD Architecture tools on top. So you use all of the AutoCAD technology, but you've got more tools in the toolbox to use when you're working in AutoCAD Architecture. So you'll then know all the basics and you can jump straight into AutoCAD Architecture and kind of hit the ground running. Now you'll notice on the screen as well things like the palettes that I mentioned, so you've got your tool palettes Design. You'll notice in AutoCAD Architecture that you can actually place individual styles of objects, so we've got doors, we've got windows, we've got walls. If I go to Design there, you can see we can design an external wall, an external door, and so on. If I click on the bunched-up tabs there, there's all different ones. Things like railings. I can add railings to my AutoCAD Architecture models. Now, one of the benefits you have with AutoCAD Architecture is you are working with 3D objects. So, for example, if I just move this little View one over here out of the way, we'll talk about that later. If I jump onto the View cube and click on a corner, you'll see there that everything's in 3D. I've got my doors, my windows, my walls, and so on. You'll also notice that some of those doors and windows look a bit weird. That's because of the visual style as well, which again, we will cover later on in the course. So what I'll do, I'll just jump back to the top view there, and you can see it now looks like a flat AutoCAD 2D drawing. So there's the difference. That's the main difference between the regular AutoCAD and AutoCAD Architecture. AutoCAD Architecture you're designing and conceptualizing a 3D model. In regular AutoCAD, a lot of the time you're working in flat 2D. So those are just some of the things that you should know before you start your AutoCAD Architecture Essential Training. I'm not saying you've got to go and do that AutoCAD Essentials course, but go and do it. It does make your life a lot easier, and at the end of the day, if you're a premium member, you can go and take as many courses as you like on the website.
