Welcome

- [Shaun] Welcome to this AutoCad Architecture Essential Training course. We're going to get you working from scratch with AutoCAD architecture, up to becoming a well-versed AutoCAD Architecture user. Now it may be that you've used regular AutoCAD in the past. So you're used to AutoCAD and you know that the regular AutoCAD is a generic drafting tool. You can draw anything with AutoCAD. You can draw nuts and bolts. You can draw widgets. You can draw floor plans. You can draw cars. You can draw engines. You can draw gardens. You can do landscaping. The whole idea of regular AutoCAD is that you can draw anything because it's generic. AutoCAD Architecture is the AutoCAD engine, but with a bunch of architectural tools basically placed on top of it. And the idea is, is that those architectural tools allow you to work in the architecture engineering construction part of the CAD industry. So you'll notice in front of you right now, we've got AutoCAD Architecture open. And you can see that we've got a little, very generic floor plan there. You can see the name of the file, floorplan.dwg, at the top of the screen there. And AutoCAD Architecture uses the same dwg file format that regular AutoCAD uses, and all the other flavors of AutoCAD as well. Now, we'll look at our floor plan. Let's have a quick look at it now. And you can see that we've got a window, but we have a style name. A style description. So you can see it's not just a layer like it would be in regular AutoCAD. And you'll see that all of these are based on AutoCAD blocks as well. And they're a lot more detailed, and there's a lot more functionality. And you can manipulate these elements quickly and easily as well. So for example, if I click on a door, you'll see that we've got all these tools that allow me to change the flip of the door, and also whether the door flips inside or outside the building for example. So all of these little tools here allow me to work in more depth in the architectural side of AutoCAD, rather than say, the mechanical side of AutoCAD. So what we're going to do is work our way through all of the exercises and the videos to get you using AutoCAD Architecture. Now what I do recommend is obviously, if you haven't got any AutoCAD experience, my suggestion would be that you go and do the AutoCAD Essentials course here on the website as a premium user because what it means is you then know all of the regular AutoCAD methodology and terminologies as well. And you'll find it a lot easier to then jump into AutoCAD Architecture because you know what all the basic stuff does of AutoCAD and then all you're worried about is the stuff that you're going to learn with AutoCAD Architecture as well. So, let's get moving. Let's get you into AutoCAD Architecture and let's get that essential training up and running.
