Using the correct version of the software

- [Instructor] When you're using your exercise files for this AutoCAD Architecture course, you need to make sure that you're using the right software version. Now the reason I say that is if you've used regular AutoCAD before, you will know that you can save back to previous dwg file formats. Now Autodesk up until AutoCAD 2017, you could use the 2013 dwg file format. Now at the moment I'm saving to the new 2018 file format, which is, at the moment, the most current version of AutoCAD Architecture. You can see it at the top of the screen there, AutoCAD Architecture 2018. Now be careful with AutoCAD Architecture. There's a difference to how you save back with the files. As I've mentioned, there's a lot more technology in the background with AutoCAD Architecture because of the way that it manages projects and obviously all of your detail components, like your walls, your doors, your windows. Let me show you what I mean. If I jump up to the application menu here, and I do a Save As, and I want to save it as a drawing, it'll save the current drawing to the default dwg file format, which is the 2018 dwg file format. So if I do that, can you see there the files are typed 2018? Let's change that to say the previous dwg file type. Soon as I do that and I go to save it, it warns me, do I want to replace it? As soon as I say yes, like that, it tells me that this drawing contains custom objects that are not supported in previous versions of AutoCAD Architecture. So I've got some options here available to me. I can save the drawing as AutoCAD only objects, instead of AutoCAD Architecture objects, or I can save the drawing to a previous version just with proxy graphics, but you can't edit them. That's not a lot of use if you want to edit objects that might be detail components, such as your walls, your doors, and your windows. Now this is quite important, and you can see there's a link there, you can jump onto the web or you can look at more information on sharing drawings with AutoCAD users, but just be aware of that when you're working with different versions of AutoCAD Architecture. I'm using the most current version, which is 2018, for this particular course. I'll close that now, and let us now save that to a previous version. You can see there that it's changed at the top. So I'm going to do Save As again, and this time I'll just click on Save As, and this time I'll save it to my 2018 version. So if I go back up to my 2018 drawing, click on Save, I'll overwrite it, do you want to replace it, yes please. Notice there's no warning because I'm using AutoCAD Architecture 2018 with a 2018 dwg file. Just be aware of that when you're working with your exercise files that you download for this particular course.
