Using compression effects

- [Instructor] Now let's talk specifically about some of the effects in Audition. For me, compression is one that I use in almost all of my mixes, and I don't mean compression as in file compression, which is used to reduce the size of a file. Audio compression is an effect used to reduce the louder parts of your audio and make the overall recording more consistent in terms of amplitude. So for example, I have this clip open, and you can see just by looking at the peaks that there are both loud areas and soft areas when the person is speaking. Let's play it back to hear how it sounds. - [Recording] Side by side is we're in difficult situations facing adversity, facing the elements, the environment. You can bluff your way through a 45 minute interview. - [Instructor] Normally if this clip was part of a multi-track session, I would apply compression in the multi-track editor, but I'm doing it in the wave form editor, 'cause it's a good way to visualize what the effect is doing.
