Understanding frequency

- [Instructor] Before we jump into working with our audio files in Audition, let's go over a few fundamental audio concepts first. We'll start by talking about frequency. When sound is created, it travels through a medium, usually air, by changes in pressure in the form of waves, and when those waves reach our eardrums, we interpret them as sound. The timing of those waves is what's known as the frequency, or to take the word literally, how frequently the wave fluctuates. To show you what I mean, let's look at this file here. Now you might guess just by looking at this waveform that this is three identical sounds played in succession. If I hit the space bar to play, you'll hear it's actually three distinct tones, each one sounding higher than the previous. (high pitched tones play) Now if I move my playhead back to the very start here, I'm just going to zoom in with the plus key, you'll see that this is actually not a solid block, but it's made up of tiny waves.
