Tips for mixing music with dialog

- [Instructor] There may be times when you're mixing your music and dialogue together and it seems like you have to turn the music all the way down to the point where you can hardly hear it just to be able to make out the dialogue clearly. And a common fix for this problem is what's known as notching, or scooping, sometimes it's also referred to as making a hole in the music, and it involves turning down only the frequencies of the music that are competing with the dialogue. So, in this session that I have open here, down the bottom I've had to turn my music track down quite low, here, just to be able to hear parts of the dialogue. It's a part of the music where there's a swell in the strings and the horns come in, and it's really competing with the interview that's happening at the same time.
