Dialogue, sound effects, music, and other audio elements play a big part in creating a compelling narrative and theme for a video. In this course, author Scott Hirsch demonstrates to filmmakers and audio engineers how to import, edit, mix, and export all of the associated audio tracks for a short film and provide the best audio impact for the video's story. He shows how to edit dialogue, reduce noise, use special effects to add depth and drama, automate volume levels, enhance the mix with equalization (EQ), and marry the final mix back to the picture.

This Adobe Audition course is an excellent companion to our video course Documentary Editing with Premiere Pro, which shows how to highlight a cause, express a point of view, and tell a story with Adobe Premiere Pro and some essential documentary editing techniques.

Welcome

(music playing) Hi! I'm Scott Hirsch and welcome to Mixing a Short Film with Adobe Audition. In this course we'll explore a powerful audio workflow for the audio of your short film, or other multimedia video project. I'll start by showing you how to export audio tracks from the Premiere video editing software. Then we'll get going in Audition with a useful film-and-video-specific template to work from. I'll then show you how to consolidate, edit, and clean up your dialogue and sync tracks using Audition's powerful editing tools and cross-fades.

We'll see how to get rid of unwanted hums and broadband noise using tools like the built-in DeHummer and broadband noise reduction plugins. We'll then look at techniques on how to use Audition's automation and clip gain to balance and tonally shape your tracks to get the perfect mix. Now let's get started with Mixing a Short Film with Adobe Audition.
