- In this movie, let's see if we can get you to a place where problems with your gear don't slow you down too much, or worse, create a panic and really grind things to a halt. Start with a clear understanding that equipment will stop working. This is true of almost everything you need to work with when making a movie. So, the first thing to do is prepare in advance for the inevitable breakdown. That's before you even leave the house. Make sure you have backups of the gear that breaks most often. I cover what you bring with you on location in some detail in the course Audio for Video: Tips and Techniques, so feel free to check that out. But, essentially, it includes such things as testing your gear before you're on set, the day before your shoot, so you have time to go get something you might need.
