- Once we're done prepping the assets of our project, it is time to import them. But wait! I'm sure you're super excited to start chopping up your footage, but don't rush to grab everything in a hurry and dump everything in your project and timeline. Not taking the time to properly organize your footage at the frontend will always, always cost you more time on the backend. Go for a walk, or a bike ride, and really think about all the possible assets you might be adding to your project, and how to organize them in the most efficient way possible. My own rule of thumb is organize your project in a way that an editor, working without instructions, and obviously, without me sitting next to her, could quickly find everything she needs. The labeling process varies slightly in each editing system, but the basic premise remains the same. Organize your footage into bins, or folders, to categorize and sub-categorize all your media assets. The names of each bin should be self-explanatory. For…
